Passport to New England Vacations

"For a Quintessential New England Experience"

Patty Page sang its’ praises in “ Old Cape Cod”.  Listen to her song and then visit the place where time has stood still.  Visit the National Seashore, rated in the top ten for most beautiful and pristine beaches in the United States.  Ride the waves or watch others catching the curl.

Ride the tide in and out on a kayak trip.  Experience the Cape’s different topography.  You will find sandy beaches, salt marshes, dunes and sand flats, at low tide.  Also, on your kayak ride be sure to bring binoculars as the birding is amazing.  You can see Hawks, Egrets, Plovers, Sea Gulls, Herons and more.  In the marshes you may even see an Osprey.   Your guide will point the way.

The ocean has lobsters, striped bass, blue fish, and that majestic mammal, the whale.  Take to the sea, as whaling captains of old, watching as the whales breach, dive, and provide a splendid show.  Sometimes they get so close to the boat that you can smell their fishy breath.

If you want to take a break from sea adventures, the Cape offers some of the best golf around with vistas like no other.  There are two 18 whole courses at The Captain’s Course, Port and Starboard, of course.  Both are equally challenging and make for a great day of golf.  Or, you can golf at Chequessett in the morning for 9 holes with Cape Cod Bay views, have lunch at the Bookstore or The Wicked Oyster, and then drive up to Highland Light, the first links course in Massachusetts.  Here you will have 9 holes of hills, vales and vistas high over the Atlantic.   If you wanted to play in Hyannis, the Hyannis Golf Club has a great course.  After golf you can drive to Main Street and enjoy an eclectic dinner choice.

Also, the Cape has various restaurants for your dining pleasure.  Abba serves Cape Cod fare with a Thai and Mediterranean flair (reservations required).  Mahoney’s is a great up-scale pub with the best pan seared lobster on the Cape.  Looking for Lobster in the rough, there is Arnolds – a long time Cape institution.  For a romantic evening The Captain Linnell House has it all, even a secluded fireside table, great for honeymoon couples, those having an anniversary, but especially notable for those getting engaged (reservations required).  For lunch, you won’t want to miss Land Ho, where you can become part of the local color of Cape Cod.  Of course, you can’t leave the Cape without our famous lobster rolls.  The Friendly Fisherman serves one chock full of lobster.  If you are not a seafood lover and crave a filet mignon, you will want to experience The Wicked Oyster in Wellfleet (reservations required).  At the Bookstore you can dine overlooking the water as you enjoy a boiled lobster dinner.  After whale watching, a Gourmet Magazine standout is The Red Inn (reservations required).

At night you can book plays, go to one of the few remaining the drive-in’s, or just sit on the beach and enjoy the stars.  Visit these websites for schedules and how to book for the different plays for the season.  The Dennis Playhouse (www.capeplayhouse.com ) is the first off-Broadway playhouse in the States, having gotten its start, because the New York playhouses were much to hot in the summer so the actors came to a cool place to practice their craft.  The Dennis Cinema (http://www.capecinema.com/format.html ) offers an eclectic choice of movies.  The Orleans Playhouse is another option for your theatre going pleasure (www.apa1.org). Or the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater WHAT an Avante guard production of unique venue.

Book three nights at the Whalewalk Inn in any of our beautiful rooms.  Please specify which outings you would like us to book – Kayak Trip with the Goose Hummock, Whale Watching with the Dolphin Fleet, or Golf at the Captain’s Course, Hyannis Golf Club, Chequessett Yacht Club, or Highland Links (or both with the lunch option.)  Also, do not forget to book your Spa Services at the same time you book your room and outings.  We offer Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue, or a Combination, Hot Stones, Aromatherapy, and Spa Facials. Reiki on Thursdays and Saturdays.
