This weekend we are having our Labor Day Scavenger Hunt and first prize is a two-night stay in our Carriage House 5 or 6 rooms -- depending on availability. We still have a couple of rooms available -- three-night minimum, but have a couple of two-nights available.

After looking for all your scavenger treasures, we will celebrate the winners with a complimentary picnic. The menu will include smoked ribs, chicken, and beef brisket. We will have Ann's best baked beans ever, Hot German Potato Salad, White Balsamic Corn Salad, Sir Cricket's Famous Cole Slaw, Joe Muir's Famous Bean Salad (Whalewalk Inn Style), Asian Peanut, Snap Pea and Sweet Potato Salad, and Chocolate, Chocolate Brownies.

Winners of the Scavenger Hunt will be announced after dinner. So check our availability and we will see you at the Inn.

The first week of September begins our mid-week specials. Check them out on our Specials Page. There is a three-night minimum -- so come for a quiet stay on Cape Cod, gourmet breakfasts, beautiful seas, sunny days, and star studded nights.

Tour Cape Cod Lighthouses -- Stay Centrally at the Whalewalk Inn & Spa

Saviors of fishermen, sailors, and whalers, the lighthouses of Cape Cod

guided ships to safety. When planning your vacation, be sure to include the beautiful lighthouses of Cape Cod. The Northern end of the Cape was once spotted with 9 different lighthouses.

A 10 minute drive from the Inn will bring you to Nauset Light. This lighthouse has a red painted top to distinguish it from Chatham and Highland Light.

Continuing towards Nauset High School you will pass the Three Sisters Lighthouses. These three lighthouses were acquired by the National Parks Services, and were moved to their present sight in 1983. Restoration began in 1988. Work was completed in 1989 and they sit 150 feet apart in their original configuration.

Over on the Bay side of Cape Cod, there once stood the Billingsgate Light. Due to erosion that lighthouse no longer exists, but the shoal where it once stood offers great fishing. The Mayo Beach Light has been moved to California, but the foundation still exists at a private home in Wellfleet. There was also the Pamet Light at Snow's Beach, but nothing of it exists today. There isn't even a picture of it.

Traveling up Route 6 in Truro is the Highland Light. Tours are offered daily. The climb up offers amazing views of the Atlantic. It is part of the National Seashore and is an active light in aiding navigation. (Around it sits the first links golf course. Not only do you play golf, but you enjoy many wondrous vistas of the lighthouse and the ocean.)

Following along Route 6, you come next to Race Point Light. This lighthouse is actively used for navigation. The keeper's house and the whistle house have been restored and are available for overnight stays.

Wood End Light is built at the elbow of the sandbar in Provincetown. This lighthouse is fully automated by solar panels and batteries.

Long Point Light is situated at the very tip of Provincetown. The lighthouse works on solar power and the outlying buildings have all been taken down. This light also remains very active in navigation.

There are many great sights where you can plan your own lighthouse tour. So book your room today -- and stay mid-week in September for three nights and check to see which rooms are available for the $40 off per night.

Romantic Getaway at the Cape Cod National Seashore -- 15% Off One Night Stays

If you are looking for a one-night getaway of romance and fabulous beaches, we have some great rooms available for one night. The vistas on some of the Cape courses are truly breathtaking, others take you through woods and over rivers, all the while challenging your abilities.

Brewster is the home of the Captains Golf Course (Port and Starboard) offering 36 holes and voted one of the best public golf courses in the Boston Area. Also, this course challenges the men, but is one of the top 100 women friendly golf courses in the Country. This environmentally friendly course is visually interesting, while still strategically challenging.

For a country club feel, playing at The Chequessett Yacht and Country Club is quite a treat. It is a nine hole course, and4 of those are very challenging (all those water traps). Hole number 3 with the steep incline can wear you down. However, once you are at the top, there is a great vista of Cape Cod Bay -- watching the sailboats from the top of three is worth the climb.

After you finish that 9 you can have lunch at the Bookstore in Wellfleet -- yummy oysters fresh from the Bay and great fish sandwiches. Now that your strength is restored, drive up to Highland Golf Links course, another 9 holes to challenge your techniques. The second hole has a tricky dog leg, but just aim left and you should be fine. Here, too, you have views to die for. Imagine playing with a lighthouse in the background, and then walking up a slight incline and the Atlantic is spread out before your eyes.

If par 3 courses are your favorite, Blue Rock Golf Course has some tricky holes, especially the ones that go over the water. The river must be paved in golf balls. There are some mean sand traps there too, with some large overhangs that get in the way of getting out of the trap. All in all, it is a fun course and can be a confidence booster. (Keeps one coming back to the game.)

Hyannis Golf Club is surrounded by woods, and has some of the best greens around. A lot of the fairways are surrounded on both sides with hills, sometimes to ones advantage and other times -- well, you know!

So take advantage of the beautiful summer weather on Cape Cod and book your room at the Whalewalk Inn & Spa, have a hearty gourmet breakfast, and then enjoy some Cape Cod Golf when you are not communing with nature at the beach.

Cape Cod Events, Art Shows, Nature Walks July 23rd through July 26th

If you have booked at the Whalewalk Inn & Spa for this weekend, here are some activities that may be of interest -- once you move off those amazing beaches. Now that you have searched all the hotels on Cape Cod, take a look at our amazing inn on Cape Cod. Relax, rejuvenate, and have a great vacation while staying at the Whalewalk Inn & Spa. We offer everything you would find at a 5 star hotel -- elegance on a quiet country road, but close to all that Cape Cod is famous for. Even the Red Tailed Hawk agrees that this a great place to take a breather from everyday life. Here are 5 great reasons why we offer a superior stay.

You say you need to stay at a hotel to be pampered -- oh, not so! Here at the Inn we serve you a full gourmet breakfast at your own table for two. You can have a pleasant chat or read the paper while enjoying a great cup of coffee and homemade bread. Our entree varies daily alternating between a sweet dish one day (waffles, pancakes, or Granola Pizza), and savory the next (Scrambled Eggs over Portabella Mushrooms, our picnic breakfast of melon, Proscuitto, and egg salad, or Grand Marnier Oatmeal Pie). We always have granola and fruit in place of the entree. Dietary allergies or restrictions are met to the best of our ability.

Cleanliness is at the top of our list. Our linens are washed on property to ensure softness. They are ironed for a crisp look of comfort. The beds are made with two top sheets surrounding the blanket so you are always on a soft sheet. When you come back to your room after breakfast, it is made up for the day. You don't come back to a messy room. It is as nice as the day you arrived.

No matter the weather, you can always keep up with your daily exercise in our Spa. The exercise room is light and airy and conducive to your daily workout. Enjoy the sauna with its dry heat, or the hot tub if you want a little moisture in the air. Swim, rain or shine, in our indoor resistance pool. New this year is Wii Fit. My favorite is the bowling -- only game at which I can beat kids and grand kids. And, if you want the best massage in the world, book one right here at the Inn. Heather or Jan will take great care of you.

We sit on three beautiful acres of lawns, gardens and nature preserve. You can sit on your private deck and see rabbits, birds galore, fox, deer, squirrels, and an occasional coyote lumbering along. Enjoy our gazebo, the front porch of the spa, or stroll along the property and find the bench for a peaceful rest down by the meadow.

Most importantly -- it is amazingly quiet here. The only thing you hear are the song birds trilling, the Bob White saying his name, or the Phoebe Bird calling out hers. Sometimes you will spot a Red Tailed Hawk, often perched on the Spa roof. There is no worry of large trucks zooming down the road to disturb your sleep or the peace of your morning. Your romantic getaway or your summer vacation will be the best ever in any one of our elegant rooms, or in our upscale cottage chic rooms. Our Spa Pent House is the ultimate in luxury awaiting your arrival.

So now that you are convinced, give us a call (508-255-0617 or 800-440-1281), and we will see you at the Inn.

Celebrate Father's Day on Cape Cod -- Fun at the Provincetown International Film Festival, Hyannis Chowdah and Car Show, and Cape Cod League Baseball

June 14th Kevin and I went to the Annual Cape Cod Maritime Museum Festival. We had a great time exploring the tall ships. We saw the Alabama out of Nantucket and the Peacemaker. Did find out that if you were looking for a great week of vacation at the Whalewalk Inn and have children from the ages of 9 to 16, the Alabama offers a week of sleep-aboard sailing. It sounded like a great vacation for the kids, while you were relaxing here and being pampered at the Inn.

This weekend is the Provincetown International Film Festival. There is a cadre of movies for every one's taste. So come on over and enjoy the fun. If Jazz is your preference, the 5th Annual Provincetown Jazz Festival is August 14-16 at the Provincetown Hight School. The 3rd Annual Provincetown Music Festival is September 19th. Make your reservations and come to the Cape for artistic fun.

Looking for something a little more sporty -- rent kayaks for three hours of fun searching the beaches, marshes and more. Or, rent bicycles or bring your own, and take advantage of the Cape Cod Rail Trail, with its many cut-offs to the most beautiful beaches around. Baseball is at its best. Sit on a grassy knoll and enjoy all the fun. Bring your own peanuts and Cracker Jack and root for the home team's success.

Father's Day offers the Hyannis Main Street Car Show. View over 400 cars. Along with the car show is the annual WCOD Chowdah Fest. Sample chowder from many area restaurants. Well, check out the June events below and all your questions will be answered. You can enjoy summer theatre, arts and crafts shows, historical tours and Bonnie Snow will take you on an amazing cemetery tour. You will even see where the Harding family has their family plot -- and then you can stay in one of the family home of Henry Harding, right here at the Whalewalk Inn & Spa. Stay at a whaling captain's home and become a part of its history.

Baseball at its best is back and looking forward to a great season. Games for June are listed with time and place so you can plan to see your favorite team or teams. So don't forget to bring the peanuts and Cracker Jack.

Also, Father's Day is not far away. Give Dad a special time away (at the Inn). After a gourmet breakfast at the Inn, he can enjoy the car show in Hyannis, sample Chowdah from area restaurants at the Big Blue Tent in Hyannis, and then end the day with a game of baseball. Orleans will take on Chatham at the Orleans field. We will supply the blanket or beach chairs, and Dad can take a picnic supper to the game. Doesn't get much better. Take advantage of all the fun events that June has to offer -- come back to the Inn for peace and quiet after a hectic day -- and enjoy all that the Cape has to offer.

June 10-July 12
“The Bald Soprano”, 7:30pm Wednesday through Sunday. One works hard all year just to gear up for VACATION. The idea of time off is to take advantage of the 4 "Rs" -- to rest, rejuvenate, relax and re-acquaint ourselves with those in our lives. How can one possibly do that, if they are staying in their own back yards. There is still cooking to do, so no great out-to-dinner meals. Beds still need to be made, rooms need to be picked up, and all those beach towels need to be washed. Staring at the lawn, you realize that needs to be mowed. You can't relax because someone always needs something from you.

Our solution -- Come to our back yard and start your vacation at the Whalewalk Inn & Spa.
No need to cook as you will have a gourmet breakfast upon awakening. Lunch is always great at a clam shack. Before dinner enjoy a light hors d'oeuvre on the back patio. And, of course, dinner can be either fine dining or relaxed. There is something for all palates. When you arrive back from dinner, search the video library, have a brandy or port, and a cookie, to appease the sweet tooth--Chocolate Sparrow has great deserts and candy, too. All that you didn't have to wash one pot, dish or pan.

As to your accommodations -- kick back and relax. Your room is freshened daily. Your bed is made before you finish breakfast. All you have to do is sit on your porch, balcony, deck or the gazebo, kick up your feet and read that book that is on your "bucket list." If you have dishes to wash, those will be taken care of also. No muss no fuss.

Stress Relief -- Bring those stress points to the Spa and have them worked on and out. A combination massage to alleviate those aches and pains, and soothe the senses is just what the VACATION ordered.

Take advantage of all that the Cape has to offer. The whales have been extremely wonderful this year, sometimes spotting up to 50 at a time. See the water ecology of the Cape, while taking a Kayak trip with the guides at Goose Hummock. Hiking, biking and birding are great sport found at the Cape Cod National Seashore and at the Audubon Nature Center. Wine tasting at the Truro Winery lends itself to a nice little respite in your travels -- and don't forget the spice shop across the street. Lighthouses dot the Cape for great tours and views. And, in the evening be sure to take in a play or two at the Cape Cod summer theatres (where summer stock theatre began.) And, soon Cape Cod League Baseball will begin. See baseball the way our fathers enjoyed it, sitting on a grassy knoll with your picnic dinner. Or, just simply take a walk at low tide on Cape Cod Bay, and watch for an amazing amount of sea creatures. Follow our simple guide and check off what you see.

So book your weekday vacation and remember until June 18th receive a 40% discount on any three nights, Sunday through Thursday. If you can only stay two nights, Sunday through Thursday, we will be happy to offer you our off-season rates through June 18th. Weekends are regular in-season prices now. Book early before your favorite room is taken. See you on Cape Cod -- the vacation that is only a car ride away.

Free Adventures at the Cape Cod National Seashore in Eastham

The first official weekend of the season, Memorial Day Weekend, was certainly a lot of fun. The Memorial Day Picnic and first ever Scavenger Hunt went really well.

Kevin did a superb job with the ribs and chicken and the brisket was done to perfection. Tried a new German potato salad with bacon and a sweet and sour dressing, which was served warm. The whole 5 pounds was eaten. Erika, one of my friends from Germany, really liked it and asked for the recipe. She said in Germany they never had it warm. Showed her the old family cookbook from 1947. Now she can't wait to make it for their next gathering. We had a corn salad, Navy beans with parsley, scallions and white wine vinegar, sweet potato salad with peanut dressing, lemon vinaigrette pasta salad, watermelon and brownies for desert.

Dinner was followed by the awarding of Scavenger Hunt prizes. The grand prize went to Alan and Karla who earned the most points and gave us ideas for some new questions for the Labor Day Scavenger Hunt. They were pleased with their two-night stay gift certificate at the Inn. Better make your reservations early for Labor Day and get in on all the fun.

The next picnic coming up is Friday, July 3rd. This picnic will be held in conjunction with the fireworks at Rock Harbor. Come and enjoy all the great food and beautiful fireworks. After dinner we walk down to Rock Harbor, and the fireworks are right over head. You feel like you can almost touch them. Those that boom kind of reverberate through ones bones.

While waiting for the Whalewalk Inn summer events, the Cape Cod National Seashore has some programs to get summer rolling.
